Having a family is probably one of the most important things to everyone in the world today. Bone is a fourteen year old boy living in the streets of New York in search for a family of his own. Growing up with an alcoholic mother and an abusive step-father was not his idea of a happy family. (Banks 151). He travels to Jamaica with him and starts to examine how to be Jamaican by growing dreadlocks and learning to construct Jamaican food. Bone sincerely begins to feel like he has found someone who cares about him and can have a happy family with.
